The Visibility Trap: Why Brilliant Women Keep Hiding

"One day I'll put myself out there properly."
Have you ever caught yourself saying something similar?
Maybe you've promised yourself you'll start posting consistently once your website is finished. You'll apply to speak when you feel more confident. You'll pitch yourself to the media once you've got another qualification under your belt. Or perhaps you'll launch that idea when life feels a little less busy.
After working with hundreds of business owners over the past twenty-five years, I've come to realise something.
Most women aren't struggling because they lack talent.
They're struggling because they're caught in what I call the Visibility Trap.
It's the belief that you have to become someone else before you're ready to be seen.

As an award-winning PR consultant, I've spent more than two decades helping international brands, entrepreneurs and experts gain recognition. From global airlines to small business owners with extraordinary stories, I've helped people uncover what makes them stand out and connect with the audiences who need them most.
For years, I believed visibility was all about strategy.
Find the right story.
Build the right relationships.
Know where to show up.
Those things absolutely matter, but life taught me that they aren't where visibility begins.
The biggest lesson didn't come from my career.
It came through becoming a mum, and through the devastating loss of our eldest daughter, Violet.
When you experience profound loss, your perspective changes forever. Suddenly, all those reasons you've been waiting begin to feel much smaller. You realise that tomorrow isn't guaranteed, and that waiting until you feel completely ready can become a habit that quietly steals years of your life.
That realisation changed not only how I lived, but how I worked.
Today, I often say that before we can become strategically visible, we first need to become spiritually seen.
For me, that means reconnecting with who we really are beneath the titles, achievements and expectations. It means recognising that the experiences we've been trying to hide are often the very things that allow us to connect most deeply with others.
Over the years, I've also learnt to embrace my psychic gifts alongside my professional expertise. Clients often come to me asking for help with PR, publicity or positioning, but very quickly I find myself helping them uncover something much deeper.
I see the story they dismiss as ordinary.
I see the wisdom they take for granted.
I see the confidence they've quietly lost beneath years of comparison, perfectionism and putting everyone else first.
More often than not, what they're missing isn't another marketing strategy.
It's permission.
Permission to stop shrinking.
Permission to stop apologising for taking up space.
Permission to believe that their voice matters.
That's why so many brilliant women remain hidden.
Not because they don't have something valuable to say, but because they've convinced themselves they need to become more before they're worthy of being heard.
Sound familiar?
You might be caught in the Visibility Trap if:
You're constantly waiting until you feel more confident.
You spend more time perfecting than posting.
You champion everyone else's success whilst quietly downplaying your own.
You know you have something important to share, but somehow it always ends up at the bottom of your to-do list.
If you're nodding along, please know this.
There is nothing wrong with you.
You don't need to become a different person.
You simply need to understand what's really keeping you hidden.
Because once you understand the reason, you can begin to change it.
That is exactly why I created my free Visibility Reset.
It's not another marketing checklist or a lesson on social media. Instead, it's designed to help you uncover the patterns, beliefs and habits that may be stopping you from stepping into the visibility you deserve.
The truth is, visibility isn't about becoming louder.
It isn't about chasing followers, constantly posting online or pretending to be someone you're not.
It's about finding the courage to share your gifts, your story and your voice because someone, somewhere, needs to hear them.
After everything life has taught me, I no longer believe the greatest risk is being seen.
I believe the greatest risk is reaching the end of your life knowing you never truly shared what only you could offer.
So perhaps today isn't the day to wait.
Perhaps it's the day to take one small, brave step.
And if you're not quite sure what's been holding you back, start with the Visibility Reset.
You might just discover that the person you've been waiting to become has been there all along.
